BIG NEWS! A local business called The Clay Pit is taking over the cry baby clay studio on Minnehaha Ave & will be offering similar services aimed at making working with clay more accessible to all community members!

I have been working directly with Soren, the owner, to set them up for success in this new journey & am so glad they’ll be carrying on the fun silly pottery vibes in the neighborhood!

check out their website here!

I (Katie, owner of cry baby clay) will continue to create under the moniker “cry baby clay” & have website updates periodically throughout the year. I’m just stepping away from community clay studio ownership to focus on some personal goals :)

hello.

I’m katie. I make clay thingies
& have a lot of feelings.

I started my journey as a part time potter, referring to working with clay as my “hobby jobby.”

In March 2020, after getting laid off from the service industry due to the pandemic, I started selling clay kits from my front porch so that people could have casual access to working with clay while we were all encouraged to social distance.

People would pick up their clay kits, create at home, then drop off their projects for firing & I’d contact them when their projects were ready for pickup. The clay kits became so popular, that they both required & enabled me to move out of my basement studio, into a larger, more public space on Minnehaha Ave in Minneapolis.

Essentially, I accidentally started a business in the pandemic, and have been blown away by the support I’ve received from the community!

After 3 years of GO GO GO & learning how to run a brick & mortar business on the fly, I’ve made the decision to step away from the community pottery studio & focus on some other life goals (like moving back to the East Coast)!

If you came here looking for a local to Minneapolis clay resource, I strongly recommend checking out The Clay Pit!

I will continue to create under the moniker “cry baby clay” so please do stick around & see what kinda silly things I get myself into next!

xoxo Katie
